Shimmering Shadows of Dusk

the shimmering shadows of dusk
blended together into a deep gray
as the clock raced along, second hand spinning
tick tock tick tock tick

the key is in the lock
and yet simultaneously, the lock is in the key
a twist, a turn
and Time itself stops

dusts itself off
rests a while
looks around and sighs
such a thankless job has Time

the world, frozen
momentarily unmoving
yet, being trapped by Time
knows not that it has stopped

this moment, captured forever
why now?
no mortal knows, for Time stopped
no mortal thinks, suspended, paused

diametrically opposed
the second and minute hand
stare at each other in a cold fury
neither moving, neither budging

yet between them
as if it were a mediator
lies the hour hand, quite still
short, stout and steady

the moment is over
just as soon as it began
not even in the blink of an eye
no one notices when Time pauses a moment

the shimmering shadows of dusk
blend together into a deep gray
the clock races along, second hand spinning
tick tock tick tock tick
