Curious Satisfaction

there is a curious satisfication
in a job well done
or at least a job
well started

in doing a deed that needed to be done
there is a fundamental appeal to some inner power
a resonance of a sort
a calm and curious satisfaction

not all works of mortals
lead to such a reward
yet for those that do
the soul is sweetened

it is as if one were
walking on a path that one were
intended to be walking upon
the way one was meant to go

a satisfacation, a joy
a strength from which draw
further strength
a deed accomplished, a deed a new

when one walks the path of angels
replenishment is found
not only such for the body
but also for the spirit

mountain passes are treacherous
yet they teach us
that even a small slip
might be much too dear

and so it is with more banal affairs
the path as it were meant to be
lies before us
and should we wander off

who have we to blame but ourselves
and the Enemy that distracted us
from the deeds that
we were meant to do

how can i know what i must do?
a young one might ask
mind full of doubt and wonder
all roads leading somewhere, unknown

the wizened master turns from his ponderings
a mirthful smile appearing in his eyes
you will know the road when you are on it
your feet will rejoice for its feel

your hair will run free in its gentle wind
your walking stick will find perfect holds
and the sun shall shine upon you
your steps shall be light and yet carry you far

you will know the road when you are on it
the road leading somewhere, known
mind full of wonder and faith
heart filled with a curious satisfaction
