High Road
- Listen to me read this poem.
I’m not going to be pulled down
Into the dark pits of that way
I’m going to stay right here
Standing by Honor, Virtue and Truth
No way am I going down that way
I’m standing here, and here I stay
I’m going along the higher way
You can mumble, you can groan
I’m going to keep on going narrow and straight
My path is set, and I’m going all the way to the pearly gate
I’m going on the high road
Avoiding all the ties and strings and webs I don’t need
I’m a man -- and this way I am freed
Freed from bonds self-serving
Break out from the world’s path, I’m going on the high road
On this road, high above the world’s way
I’m treading with my maker today
‘Cause I don’t need to improve my ‘self-esteem’
I don’t care if you call me a crazy teen
God -- all I need -- is along for my life’s ride
Self-help, Psycho-babble, none of that do I need
God’s here, God’s with me, I’m glad
My heart isn’t going to be ripped into shreds
Just because of what someone said
Love is a not an illusion, nor a social high
Forever and More, through Better and Worse
I’m not stepping down from the higher way
I’m gonna keep on going this way
There’s nothing you can do to stop me
And there’s nothing that you can say
